The theme for the presentation was enhancing international opportunities through fellowships and grants for students and members of faculty of Murang’a University of Technology (MUT), Kenya. The two-day event commenced on Friday, 27th October 2022 at 9.30 am with a presentation for faculty members present in the University assembly hall. The chief guest Professor Rajgopal Sashti presented an overview of the Fulbright Program including a brief history. The key areas for successful application were highlighted and useful links to fellowships provided. Successfully funded proposals were also shared with the participants. This was an eye opener for faculty and a great opportunity to seek clarifications on successful applications. The afternoon session started at 2.00 p.m. in the Senate Boardroom and was attended by University Management, Deans and Directors. There was exchange of knowledge (human resources and financial) with the members of staff present. The chief guest shared widely on networking approaches and the staff had an opportunity to learn strategies to build strong networks and enhance the visibility of Murang’a University of Technology. This was a great opportunity indeed that will allow MUT to collaborate more. Day two events begun at 9.00 am on 28th October 2022, with a presentation for both undergraduate and post graduate students of Murang’a University of Technology. The chief guest took the participants through the Fulbright Program highlighting on how the program works, application dates, eligibility criteria, what the grant caters for among others. A lot of emphasis was made on the need to engage on data mining as a routine activity to garner useful information on fellowships and grants. The participants had a chance to read successfully funded proposals and showed a lot of interest in the Fulbright scholarships. The afternoon session was the climax of the event as the students had an opportunity to engage in one on one consultations with the guest speaker. This was a life changing moment with many promising to try their luck. In conclusion, members of faculty and students will now be able to apply for grants to conduct collaborative research with institutions abroad as well as apply for post-doctoral research and exchange programs for their professional growth and development. This will be a great step towards helping MUT meet her internationalization needs.
